Attendance
Good attendance is vital if your child is to achieve and make good progress. We monitor attendance daily. Term time holidays are not authorised and could result in fines being issued through Fixed Penalty Notices.
Reports to parents include an attendance grade for every child, based on the red/yellow/green system.
- Green = 96% and above
- Yellow = 90-95.9%
- Red = below 90%
We will always contact you if we are concerned about your child’s attendance.
If your child is absent due to sickness
Please notify us by email on oldtrafford@focus-trust.co.uk or phone (0161 912 4875) to let us know and explain your child’s absence. This message will be shared with Miss O'Gara, our attendance officer. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of your child, we will contact you if we have not received notification from you by 9.15am. Where possible, please make medical and dental appointments outside of the school day. Where this is not possible, pupils should attend school for part of the day and an appointment card should be provided.
Persistent absence – attendance below 90%
Any child whose attendance falls below 90% will be referred to the Education Welfare Service, monitored closely and further action taken. This could include fixed penalty fines or prosecution, particularly where the problem is persistent over time.
Punctuality
Being late for school makes it hard for your child to learn. If they are 30 minutes late each day it means they are missing a half day of school every week. If your child is late by 10 minutes a day he or she will miss the equivalent of one week of learning time in a year.
Holidays in term time
Holidays in term time are not permitted. All parents are reminded of this policy on a regular basis. In the very few instances where absence has been authorised, parents will be provided with a letter from the Principal that clearly states this. Without this letter of authorisation, parents should assume that the absence will be unauthorised.
